Margaretha Spezzano is originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba. In 2015, she graduated from the University of Manitoba with her Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art History. She then moved to Grand Forks to attend Law School. In 2018, Margaretha graduated from the University Of North Dakota School Of Law, cum laude.
While in law school, Margaretha participated as an associate editor of the North Dakota Law Review. In her second and third year of law school, Margaretha worked on the Indigent Defense Project assisting one of her professors in the representation of indigent criminal defendants. In 2018, Margaretha participated in the law school's Carrigan Cup competition, placing second overall. That same year, Margaretha represented the school of law at the national trial team competition and received a School of Law Endowment for demonstrating professionalism, skill, knowledge, and proficiency in trial advocacy.
